Puppy application 2025 (pdf)
DownloadThis is a question that has to be asked - after all this is a 12-15 year commitment- and the cost of your new puppy is important - as well as the future financial requirement in the years to come.
I can usually tell who is looking for a deal, and who is committed to owing a quality Australian Shepherd by the first question asked to me. Lots of times it’s “ how much” and when I respond .. I never hear from them again!
My dogs are not cheap- it’s not make a quick dollar and send them out the door. My program is based around the old original aussies- lots of imported sired and dams that are not commonly found in Canada. They stand out..These dogs will work hard for you and can go in any direction they are put in- as well as be easy to live with. Not all Aussies are bred the same. There are lots of choices out there - purebred doesn’t mean well bred. Lots of research, health testing and planning goes into my pairings - to ensure the result is what an Aussie should look like, as well as temperament that they should be .
The investment you will make with a Summit Acres puppy is between $1800- $2300 depending on litter, pairings, pedigree etc.
In the end you will have a healthy dog, less vet visits, a well rounded, good minded Australian Shepherd. - yes it’s a alot of money- but so is raising quality puppies. This is an investment as well as a commitment. Summit Acres will provide you with a quality dog, easy to train with health testing - registered with Canadian Kennel Club- These are the old line Aussies… where they all started !
We don’t pair just two pretty dogs together. Alot goes into the decisions for who gets paired. Personalities, pedigrees that compliment eachother- health testing, and genetic testing is all considered before a breeding. Our goal is to better the breed each time; and be able to offer an exceptional Australian Shepherd that stands out from the rest.
CKC- Canadian Kennel Club- provides registration for all purebred dogs it recognizes in Canada - Australian Shepherd STANDARD was added in 1991
AKC- American Kennel Club-Much like Canada Standard Australian Shepherds were recognized in 1991
ASCA- Australian Shepherd Club of America- was established as the parent club for the breed in 1957
ASDR- American Stock Dog Registry- founded in 2016 - 8 different breeds are under this registry- including the miniature American shepherd ( recognized by CKC in 2017) Commonly known as the miniature Australian shepherd .
At Summit Acres all dogs are registered- recognized as purebred dogs. Emphasis in the longest standing registry —ASCA as well as CKC and AKC. Only the top bloodlines and the true old Australian Shepherd pedigrees enter Summit Acres program- this guarantees you a purebred, part of the Aussie history and the original lines that made this breed amazing. At Summit Acres we strive to maintain this and keep some of the original bloodlines alive with some of the oldest lines and registries.
Obviousy the puppy! Your puppy will join your family at 8-9 weeks old- and if desired up to 13 weeks old! Puppy will be well on its way with potty training and basic commands. Why 9-12 weeks? This is a crucial time in your puppies life and will have a huge impact on its future.
Early social of puppies should be done thoughtfully. I like to slowly introduce puppies to children and other adults, car rides, crate time, loud noises, surfaces, grooming tools, solid food, the outdoors, and give them individual attention. This enable puppies to enjoy new experiences, recover from startling situations, and learn to enjoy being handled, while beginning to make connections with humans. Your puppy will be sent home being comfortable in a kennel- basic commands - sit- wait- and well on it’s way to potty training.Spending individual time training and working with your puppy- I do all this for a smooth transition into their new homes - setting them up for success is so important!
Communication doesnt stop the day you leave with your new puppy. I am available throughout the life of your new addition. If life changes on your end- I want to be the first to know- and I will welcome your Summit Acres puppies back!
I've been on your end of buying a puppy and I know the excitement that comes along with it!
